Tablescape-Thursday - Tribut to Australia

As you all know, we were on vacation in Australia. The last week we spent in Darwin, in the far north of Australia. Australia is below the equator, and therefore it is warmer in the north than in the south.

In the souvenir shop I bought these napkins  and runners with traditional design for the home. And this hand-carved of Aboriginal Lizard would accompany us home, too.

Wie Ihr ja alle schon wisst, waren wir in den Ferien in Australien.  Die letzte Woche verbrachten wir in Darwin, ganz im Norden Australiens. Australien liegt unterhalb des Äquators, und deshalb ist es dort wärmer als im Süden.

Im Souvenirshop kaufte ich mir diese Servietten und Läufer mit traditionellem Design für Zuhause. Und auch diese von Aborigines handgeschnitzte Eidechse würde uns nachhause begleiten.

In Darwin we had a fantastic hotel room, because it had a full kitchen including dishes and pots. There was also a great supermarket, so it was clear that we would use this kitchen. And so it came that I set a tablescape in Darwin on the hotel balcony with my runner and napkins.

In Darwin hatten wir ein phantastisches Hotelzimmer, denn es hatte eine komplette Küche incl. Geschirr und Töpfen. Da es auch einen tollen Supermarkt gab, war klar, dass wir diese Küche auch nutzen würden. Und so kam es, dass ich in Darwin auf dem Balkon mit den Servietten meinen Tablescape deckte.

It was a warm evening and with a good bottle of Australian wine, we enjoyed the view at the sea. At dusk, some huge bats flew silently over the city, they looked a bit of spooky. While I was roasting the meat in the kitchen, the front desk called us because the smoke detectors had alerted. 

Es war ein warmer Abend und mit einer guten Flasche australischen Weins genossen wir die Aussicht bis zum Meer. In der Abenddämmerung flogen einzelne riesige Flughunde lautlos über die Stadt, sie sahen ein bisschen gespenstig aus. Während ich in der Küche das Fleisch briet, rief uns die Rezeption an, weil die Rauchmelder bei ihnen angeschlagen hatten.

What we ate? With bush plums marinated kangaroo steak*, served with roasted potatoes and green beans. And for dessert there was a cherimoya fruit (Annona cherimola).

*Because some asked me: Yes, it's true. We ate Kangaroo. The meat was like beefsteak. Without any fat and tender in structure. Did not smell or taste strange. And - when you enlarge the photo - you get it in the supermarket ready to cook. Although right near the Kangaroo meat starts the section with the dogfood, I think, because the Kangaroo steaks were bush plum marinated, it was not intended as dog food. :-)  

Was haben wir gegessen? Mit Buschpflaumen mariniertes Kangaroo-Steak*, dazu geröstete Kartoffeln und grüne Bohnen. Und als Nachtisch gab es eine Cherimoya-Frucht (Annona cherimola).

*Weil mich einige fragten: Ja, es ist wahr. Wir aßen Känguru. Das Fleisch war wie Rindersteak. Ohne Fett und zart in der Struktur. Hat auch so geschmeckt und gerochen. Und - wenn man das Foto zu vergrößert, sieht man - man bekommt es im Supermarkt fertig zum kochen. Obwohl in unmittelbarer Nähe des Kängurufleischs der Abschnitt mit dem Hundefutter beginnt, glaube ich nicht, dass es  als Hundefutter gedacht war, weil das Känguru Steaks mit Busch Pflaumen mariniert war. :-)

The table runners, napkins (from Bulurru) and the memories we brought naturally with us, when we went home. And we made at home also for dear friends of us an Australian table.

Den Tischläufer, die Servietten (der Fa. Bulurru)  und die Erinnerungen nahmen wir natürlich auch mit nach Hause. Und deckten auch dort für liebe Freunde einen australischen Tisch.

Earth-brown plates and a wine-red tablecloth seemed the appropriate colors to represent the Australian continent. In front of each plate I put some small shells from the beach in Darwin.

Erdbraune Teller und eine weinrote Tischdecke schienen mir die passenden Farben, um den australischen Kontinent zu repräsentieren. Vor jeden Teller legte ich noch kleine Muscheln vom Strand in Darwin.

As a centerpiece I had decorated on a tray a little diorama. Large stones from the beach in Darwin and small green candles in the form of bushes formed the Australian desert. There I put the Schleich-Kangaroos. Look at their faces, aren't they amazing naturally and cute?

Als Mittelstück hatte ich auf einem Tablett ein kleines Diorama dekoriert. Große Steine vom Strand in Darwin und kleine grüne Kerzen in Form von Büschen bildeten die australische Wüste. Darauf stellte ich die Känguruhs der Firma Schleich. Schaut euch ihre Gesichter an, sind sie nicht erstaunlich natürlich und süß?
