Tablescape-Thursday - St. Martin's dinner

November 11 is in Germany St. Martin's day. It is a nice feast with a long tradition. The Children go  in a big procession and carry lanterns. Another tradition is to have roast goose for dinner. Our family does not  celebrate this tradition exactly on that day but on the following weekend. So I show you my table for that event. I covered the table for 6 persons, but usually we are 9.  And I buy always a big goose and additional some separate breasts and legs to have a nice piece for everybody.   

Am 11. November ist Martinstag. Ihr kennt ja die Tradition. Die Kinder gehen im Laternenzug und es gibt ein großes Gänsebraten-Essen. Wir essen die Gans nicht immer genau am 11.11., sondern am drauf folgenden Wochenende. Ich zeige euch heute meinen Tisch für diesen Anlass. Ich habe hier für 6 Personen gedeckt, aber wir sind normalerweise 9. Und ich kaufe immer eine große Gans und zusätzlich noch Bruststücke und Schenkel, damit jeder eine schöne Portion bekommt.

The table is set as usual for this dinner. No starter because a roasted goose with the classical sidedishes is more than enough for everybody. We have red cabbage and dumplings as sidedishes.

Napkins are really important for that dinner, because it is very greasy. So I folded a white napkin and added a paper napkin with goose print.

Der Tisch ist gedeckt wie üblich. Keine Vorspeise, denn Gänsebraten mit den klassischen Beilagen ist mehr als genug für jeden. Es gibt dazu Rotkraut und Klösse als Beilage.

Servietten sind wichtig für dieses Essen, denn es ist sehr fettig. Ich habe je eine weiße Serviette gefaltet und zusätzlich eine Papierserviette mit Gänsedruck.

And I got in the last days before the feast this cute goose napkin rings. Aren't they nice?

Und ich habe in den letzten Tagen vor dem Fest diese süßen Gänse-Serviettenringe bekommen. Sind die nicht hübsch?

In the middle of the table a huge platter is enthroned and decorated with a garland of faux fir branches. A red and gold ribbon adornes the garland.

   

In der Mitte thront eine große Platte, dekoriert mit einer Girlande von künstlichen Tannenzweigen. Eine rot-goldenes Schleifenband verziert die Girlande.

I loved this table and I was very happy with my centerpice. But my dear husband grinned and said: "No, this is definately a poor centerpiece". 

I fand den Tisch toll und war ganz zufrieden mit dem Mittelaufbau. Aber mein Göttergatte grinste und sagte: "Nein, das sieht wirklich ärmlich aus."

O.K., I know, what he meant. THIS is a good centerpiece for him!  

O.K., ich weiß ja, was er meinte. DAS ist ein guter Anblick für ihn.
