Höchster Porzellan-Manufaktur

Frankfurt-Höchst ist bekannt für die Farbenindustrie. Doch auch eine kleine, aber feine Porzellanmanufaktur ist dort ansässig. Am 17. Mai 2014 öffnete die Porzellan-Manufaktur in Höchst für ihren Collectors Club die Tore. Da gab es allerhand Interessantes zu entdecken.

 Frankfurt-Hoechst is known for the paint industry. However, a small but fine porcelain factory is also located there. On May 17, 2014, the porcelain factory in Höchst opened for their Collectors Club the gates. There were all sorts of interesting things to discover.

Höchst ist heutzutage ein Stadtteil von Frankfurt/Main. Zur Gründungszeit der 'Höchster Porcellainefabrique' 1746 war Höchst selbständig und gehörte zu Mainz. Daher übernahm Höchst das Mainzer Rad ins Wappen. Auch die Porzellanmanufaktur zeichnet noch heute ihre Waren mit diesem Mainzer Rad. Die Höchster Porzellanmanufaktur ist nach Meissen die älteste in Deutschland. Dass sie trotzdem wesentlich weniger bekannt ist, als andere Manufakturen, liegt an ihrer wechselhaften Geschichte (mehr dazu hier: http://www.hoechster-porzellan.de/de/erlebnismanufaktur/historie/firmenprofil/).

An der Marke erkennt man, ob der Dekor handgemalt ist oder aufgedruckt.
Painted or printed? The Manufactory mark shows the difference.

 Höchst is today a district of Frankfurt/Main. When the 'Höchster Porcellainefabrique' was founded in 1746, Höchst was independent and belonged to Mainz. Therefore, Höchst took over the Wheel of Mainz to its crest. The porcelain factory still marks its goods with this wheel-sign. The Höchst Porcelain Manufactory is next to Meissen the oldest in Germany.  Im Schauraum stehen traditionelle Porzellanwaren neben modernen Designerlinien. Sie alle werden in Handarbeit geformt oder gegossen. Viele Arbeitsschritte sind nötig, damit ein perfekt ausgeformtes und bemaltes Porzellanerzeugnis entsteht. Jeder einzelne Teller, jede Gefäß wird auf diesen Handmaschinen an Schablonen geformt oder in Gipsformen gegossen, wie man hier sieht. 

In the showroom traditional chinaware stand next to modern designer lines. All be molded or cast by hand. Many steps are necessary in order to create a perfectly molded and painted porcelain product. Each individual plates, each vessel is formed on these portable machines to templates or poured into plaster molds, as you can see here.

Alle Henkel, Deckelknäufe und Tüllen müssen an die gegossenen Körper in Handarbeit angeformt werden. Eine Arbeit, die viel Fingerspitzengefühl erfordert.

All handles, lid knobs and spouts must be molded to the cated body in hand work. A job that requires a lot of scills.

Sehr bekannt sind die fein ausgeformten Höchster Figuren aus den Jahren 1766 -1767 von Johann Peter Melchior und später von Carl Ries, die heute noch produziert werden. Das Alte mit der Moderne zu verbinden hat sich die Manufaktur zur Aufgabe gemacht. Und so entstehen heute unter der Hand von Steffen Taubhorn moderne Gefässe, aus denen historische Figuren wachsen:

Very well known are the finely molded Höchst figurines from the years 1766 -1767 by Johann Peter Melchior and later by Carl Ries which are still in production today. The Old connect with modernity, the Manufacture has taken on the task. And so today arise under the hand of Steffen Taubhorn modern vessels from which historical figures grow:

 Eine weitere Künstlerin ist die Porzellanmalerin, die das feine Manufakturporzellan durch verschiedene handgemalte Dekore veredelt.

Another artist is the porcelain painter who refines the fine porcelain manufactory by various hand-painted decors.

 Das klassische Strohblumenmuster heißt in Höchst Amalienburg (Form Residenz).

The classic straw flower pattern is called in Höchst Amalienburg (Shape Residenz).

Eine Abwandlung des Musters auf einer älteren traditionellen Form ergab die moderne, asiatisch inspirierte  Edition Kyoto. Die hervorragend dazu passenden Bambusvasen entwarf Jürgen Wiens.

A modification of the pattern on an older traditional shape yielded the modern, Asian-inspired Kyoto Edition. The excellent matching bamboo vases designed Jürgen Vienna.

Hier wurde die Form Residenz mit eleganter Platin-Dekoration versehen. Leider sieht man auf den Fotos nicht das wunderschöne Relief der Form Residenz. 

Stell dir vor, das wäre die Tischdekoration für die heutige Teeparty.

 Here, the shape Residenz was elegant decorated with platinum. Unfortunately, we do not see in the photos the beautiful relief of the shape Residenz.
Imagine, this would be the setting for today's tea party.
